Learn more about what Hall & Wilcox can offer you:About the role and teamWe have exciting new opportunities for Associates to join our growing General Insurance team based in Sydney. We are keen to hear from people with experience in any one, or a mixture, of: marine insurance (including transport and trade), personal injury and public liability, and/or property damage (coverage, defence and recoveries).You will be responsible for and have carriage of your own files and work closely with our supportive and industry leading partners. Our Sydney team has approximately 60 people and is part of a national General Insurance practice which has approximately 200 people. They advise on and manage litigated claims for a number of major insurers, reinsurers and corporates, and on behalf of significant clients in a wide variety of industries. We sit on the legal panels of three of Australia’s top four general insurers, as well as a number of other local and international insurers.You will be responsible for:
  • handling both advisory and litigated files;
  • drafting client advices;
  • drafting letters of instruction to experts;
  • reviewing documents and preparing evidence;
  • drafting correspondence to the Court and third parties;
  • conference with witnesses and prepare witness statements;
  • preparing briefs for counsel;
  • drafting Court documents and attendance at Court; and
  • supervising and mentoring junior lawyers and paralegals.
About youYou will ideally have the following skills and experience:
  • 2 - 5 years of post-admission experience in any one, or a mixture of: marine insurance, personal injury, public liability and property damage (coverage, defence and recoveries);
  • experience in the day-to-day management of files and in running matters through court proceedings;
  • clear, concise legal writing skills;
  • a team player with the ability to also work autonomously; and
  • motivated and eager to build a legal career in the insurance sector.
