Some of the key tasks you will perform in this role include:
  • Preventing, detecting and investigating offences in areas such as street offences, family violence, traffic, drugs and alcohol
  • Securing and examining crime scenes and accidents to locate and obtain evidence
  • Maintaining public safety
  • General Patrols in identified areas to minimise the potential for public disturbance and crime
  • Investigating accidents, crimes, minor offences and public complaints, gathering evidence and investigating, arresting and interviewing suspects
  • Testing persons suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and issuing infringement notices for traffic offences
  • Directing and controlling traffic at congested areas
  • Attending at community engagement events
  • Providing advice and assistance to victims of crime and their families
  • Maintaining records and preparing reports
  • Attending court
To serve as a South Australian Police Officer, you must be:
  • 18 years or older at the time of application
  • An Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • Able to meet medical, fitness and psychometric requirements
  • Able to complete operational training and be willing to carry and use operational safety equipment, including a firearm
