The RoleThe ABC is seeking expressions of interest from motivated and experienced subeditors looking to join our News Digital team in Brisbane on a casual basis. You will subedit and refine stories for the ABC News website, app and digital platforms. In addition, you will provide guidance to journalists on structure, accuracy, editorial policy, tone and style to ensure all content meets the highest editorial standards.We are looking for an experienced subeditor who has worked in a news environment and has a strong understanding on the way news stories are presented online. We're looking for someone with the flexibility to work shifts across a 7-day roster, including early starts, late finishes and weekends.The Job
Produce and subedit digital content (text, photos, audio, video) for ABC News platforms using the CoreMedia CMS
Ensure stories are accurate, consistent and engaging through rigorous fact-checking and editing
Collaborate with Publishing, Breaking News and other teams to deliver timely, high-quality coverage
Support and mentor digital journalists, providing feedback on writing and publishing standards
Pitch and generate story ideas that reflect Australia's cultural, geographic and socio-economic diversity
Contribute to editorial discussions and adapt flexibly to a wide range of newsroom duties

Tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience
A strong interest in stories that reflect Australia's diversity, with a proven ability to build and maintain community contacts
Advanced digital journalism skills with newsroom experience and expertise in online news presentation, distribution and engagement
Excellent editorial judgement with speed, accuracy and attention to detail under pressure
Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills; able to mentor and provide constructive feedback
Broad knowledge of local, national and international news, with a clear focus on audience needs
Proficiency in producing cross-platform content, with a strong understanding of social media, media law and complex digital project delivery
