Our client, a large complex Queensland Government department, are currently seeking a Technical Project Manager for an initial contract until 30/06/2026 with possible extension.The roleAs the Technical Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading the delivery of digital and technology-enabled projects that support the department’s strategic objectives. You’ll oversee the full project lifecycle - from scoping and planning through to execution and closure - while navigating complex technical environments and managing multiple stakeholders.This role is ideal for a proactive and solutions-focused professional who thrives in a dynamic ICT environment and can confidently coordinate across business and technical teams. You will work in close partnership with the Portfolio Manager and Enterprise Architect to ensure alignment with governance frameworks, architectural standards, and broader ICT priorities.As the Technical Project Manager, you will:
  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple IT projects concurrently, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Work with stakeholders to define project requirements, scope, objectives, and success criteria.
  • Collaborate closely with the Portfolio Manager and Enterprise Architect to ensure project alignment with strategic priorities, architectural standards and governance requirements.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources, including technical teams, vendors, and service providers.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, including project plans, risk registers, and status reports.
  • Manage project risks and issues proactively and escalate where appropriate.
  • Facilitate effective communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all projects adhere to governance standards, including change management and quality assurance processes.
  • Monitor and report on project progress to senior management and governance bodies.
  • Support procurement activities, including drafting technical requirements and evaluating vendor proposals.
  • Promote continuous improvement and lessons learned across all project activities.
Key skills and experience
  • Strong experience in managing IT infrastructure, cloud, and application development projects.
  • Proficiency with project management tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, PRINCE2, PMBOK).
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work across multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Technical literacy to understand complex ICT environments and translate technical concepts for business audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage vendor relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Role requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Project Management, or a related discipline is highly desirable.
  • Certification in project management (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, Agile) is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a project management role within an ICT or digital environment.
  • Experience working in or with government or large enterprise environments is an advantage.
