Science communication is at the heart of what we do.The Visitor Experience team contributes to this mission by delivering high customer and client service standards that enhance our visitors’ experience and interaction with science at the Questacon Centre in Parkes. The team enhances the visitor’s experience through effective and professional operation of all visitor service points. Questacon’s volunteers play a vital role in staffing Questacon’s exhibits and bringing STEM to life for a diverse range of visitors. Volunteers enjoy and contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment.The opportunityYou will work collaboratively as part of the Visitor Experience team with a focus on coordinating the Questacon Volunteer Program, including recruiting, training, supporting and supervising volunteers and reporting on the delivery of volunteer-related projects.You will be joining a dynamic, fun and inclusive team who enjoy providing inspiring STEM engagement for visitors to Questacon’s Science and Technology Centre.Our ideal candidateThe Volunteer Coordinator works with a large and diverse team delivering engaging, quality and inspirational experience to all visitors. You will have a passion for working with people, and a highly developed understanding and appreciation for the value volunteers bring to an organisation. You will be a skilled communicator and relationship builder, with the ability to create a positive team culture and maintain productive working relationships across the organisation to achieve results.Our ideal candidate will be skilled in provide timely briefings and reports on volunteer activity to executive, senior and team managers. Good time management skills, including the ability to manage a range of projects with pressing deadlines will be an advantage.What you will doWorking consistently with the expectations for an APS5 in the APS Work Level Standards, the Volunteer Coordinator has responsibility for the following key functions for Questacon:
  • Coordinate the recruitment, induction, training, supervision, motivation, and recognition of the Questacon Volunteer Program
  • Strengthen the Volunteer Program, volunteer recognition and grow volunteer numbers
  • Provide regular reports on volunteer activity and statistics for executive and senior managers
  • Ensure volunteer policies, procedures and documentation is developed, updated, and adhered to
  • Support project delivery and reporting associated with the volunteer endowment fund
  • Ensure procedures are in place to provide for the physical and mental safety of volunteers and the public engaging with the Volunteer Program
  • Review and evaluate program goals, improving delivery methods and developing new program content
  • Coordinate the Schools Training Program
  • Coordinating Volunteer rosters and processing volunteer reimbursements
  • Working closely within the Visitor Experience team – other duties as required.
EligibilityTo be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens. You will also be required to:
  • hold or be able to obtain a Baseline security clearance, and maintain clearance at this level
  • hold or be able to obtain a current registration issued under the Working With Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 and maintain this registration for the duration of employment
  • pass a national police check
