Senior Cloud AWS Engineer Location: BrisbaneInitial 6 month contract with view to extendPlay a pivotal role in shaping the future of digital services across Queensland Government. The Senior Cloud AWS Engineer will be responsible for delivering secure, modern, and highly‑scalable AWS and DevOps platforms — providing expert guidance, technical leadership, and hands‑on engineering across a range of critical services.Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, implementation, and support of cloud infrastructure and DevOps services using AWS technologies.
  • Act as a technical authority, translating business needs into well‑crafted cloud architecture and solution designs.
  • Guide platform engineering efforts — from onboarding new customers and assessing emerging technologies, to creating reusable DevOps patterns.
  • Mentor and support a team of technical specialists, driving a culture of risk awareness, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver fit‑for‑purpose cloud and DevOps solutions.
  • Maintain and evolve environments using secure CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, AWS CodeDeploy, AWS CodePipeline), container services (EKS, ECS, Fargate), and infrastructure‑as‑code (AWS CDK, TypeScript).
  • Participate in after‑hours support as required.
About You
  • Extensive experience with AWS infrastructure and modern DevOps practices in enterprise, high‑security environments.
  • Strong track record delivering secure, cloud‑native and containerised platforms.
  • Skilled in CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC), and platform automation.
  • Deep knowledge of AWS services such as Lambda, EC2, ECS/EKS, Fargate, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, API Gateway, and associated networking.
  • Familiarity with digital identity platforms, data‑sharing APIs, and developer portals.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • An inspiring technical leader, adept at mentoring teams and fostering collaboration in an agile setting.
