Closing Date: Monday, 29 September 2025 unless filled prioris a Catholic secondary boy's boarding college. Located in an ideal rural setting in the heart of the Herbert River Valley, the College is approximately 30 km North West of Ingham and situated on Warrgamay land. The main industries are sugarcane, forestry and cattle. Abergowrie is close to Wallaman Falls which is the highest single-drop waterfall in Australia and the beautiful Broadwater National Park.About the roleSt Teresa's Catholic College, Abergowrie is seeking a proactive and committed Groundsperson to join our dedicated staff. This is a full-time, permanent position with an immediate start available.This role offers more than just day-to-day maintenance—it’s an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the well-being and learning experience of students, while developing practical skills in a supportive environment.As a Groundsperson you’ll play a key role in the ongoing improvement and upkeep of the College’s facilities. Working closely within a team, you'll help manage resources, ensure a safe and welcoming physical environment, and support a setting where students can thrive.From maintaining high-quality play and recreation areas to learning new techniques in grounds care, and minor repairs. This role provides hands-on experience and the chance to build your capabilities under the guidance of the Facilities Manager.Key AccountabilitiesBasic maintenance (including preventative maintenance) to equipment, grounds and gardens by schedules and routines or as directed by the Grounds Supervisor or Principal including:
- Attend regular meetings with the Grounds Supervisor or Principal for allocation of tasks and a willingness to rotate duty roster
- Maintain lawn, trim trees overhanging infrastructure, hedging, blowing down and outdoor vacuuming
- Assist with constant upkeep and upgrading of school grounds and gardens, including fertilising, poisoning, landscaping and minor irrigation checks and repairs as required
- Bin runs, rubbish removal, tilling sandpits and pressure cleaning
- Assist with setting up for school functions and displays
- Carry out minor repairs to the College property and equipment, including:
- Assist with marking playing fields
- Routine maintenance and cleaning of machinery and sheds, including external cleaning
- Assist with general maintenance, upkeep and cleaning duties as reasonably requested
- Physically fit and able to perform manual labour
- Skilled in the use of operating lawn mowers, trimmers and other landscaping equipment
- Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government.
- Current Driver’s Licence
- Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner
- This position will be subject to a pre-employment medical assessment to support the selection process. For some positions, it may be necessary for the successful applicant to be immunised against certain preventable diseases to minimise the risk of transmission.
- Minimum Certificate II in Water Operations or be willing to obtain
- Relevant certificate or trade qualifications.
