Eligibility: Open to EveryoneSheriff’s Officers contribute to an effective support service to all court users by performing duties of a multi-skilled Sheriffs Officer, including in-court support, prisoner security, in court management of prisoners, court precinct security and point of entry searching.Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service and information to all court users.
- Provide security and maintain order with the court precinct.
- Assist witnesses and other court participants with court processes.
- Oversee emergency evacuations of court buildings, ensuring the safety of all individuals present.
- Respond to various emergency situations.
- This is a casual position up to 12 months with the possibility of being extended.
- Appointment is under the Courts Administration Act, 1993. Terms and conditions of employment are governed by the Public Sector Act, 2009.
- This role is identified as a Prescribed Position and the successful applicant is required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) prior to employment with CAA, which must be renewed every five years before expiry.
- As a justice agency, the CAA may receive details of spent convictions as part of any Criminal History Screening and use this information in the selection process.
- Incumbents will be provided with training in all aspects of the Sheriff’s Officer role and will be required to participate in ongoing refresher training as per Sheriff’s Office policy.
- Sheriff’s Officers hold an appointment as a security officer pursuant to the Sheriff’s Act, 1978.
- Will be required to wear full regulation issued uniform.
- Is required to hold, or be willing to obtain, current certificates in HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.
- May be required to work in alternate locations at the discretion of the Sheriff or due to the requirements of the courts.
- May be required to work outside of the normal hours of work and undertake intrastate travel, which may necessitate overnight absences.
