Department of Western Sydney DiabetesWestern Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) has established four quinquennial Visiting Medical Officer posts for appointments within the Department of Western Sydney Diabetes. The positions will be primarily located at Mount Druitt Community Health Centre and will suit General Practitioners with interest in management of diabetes.Accordingly, Western Sydney Local Health District WSLHD invites applications from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above positions. The appointment will be offered as a fixed term contract for 12 months from the date of appointment. Contract start dates will be negotiated with successful applicants to ensure the appointment period is correctly aligned with service requirements and agreed roster plan.There are positions that will commence on 2 May 2024, 22 August and 2 position will commence on 20 February 2025. The commencement dates will be negotiated with the preferred applicants.Applicants who are not successful for an appointment at the outset may be placed on an eligibility list for future GP-VMO vacancies within 12 months of being interviewed.Successful applicants will have an understanding of the key population health priorities within WSLHD and take responsibility for the delivery of good medical care, accept accountability for clinical outcomes, and appropriate stewardship of community resources.They will work as member of a multidisciplinary team, role modelling best practice and contribute to the review and development of care processes, monitoring of emerging issues and the implementation of change.Undertake clinical responsibilities by providing patient care, liaising with other doctors and health care providers, and maintaining appropriate records and confidentiality, including obtaining and documenting consent for medical treatment.Participate in clinical leadership and governance by proactively managing patient feedback, monitoring care outcomes and reporting unexpected clinical outcomes, unwarranted clinical variations and significant concerns with quality of care.Participate in and facilitates education planning and delivery to undergraduate and postgraduate health professional trainees, as appropriate.Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997 and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014.Selection Criteria· Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.· Be professionally based in Western Sydney Local Health District· Sound clinical knowledge in General Practice and diabetes care demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.· Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:o High level interpersonal and communication skills.o Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.o Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.o Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.· Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.· Demonstrate an ability to use a team based approach to diabetes management· Ability to communicate with and work with other General PractitionersWorking With Children CheckApplicants must provide evidence of a Working with Children Check issued by the Office of Communities Commission for Children and Young People.
