Applications will be reviewed upon submission.The School of Economics and Public Policy is renowned for its excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in Economics and Public Policy, providing cutting-edge research in areas such as econometrics, macroeconomics, data analysis, and quantitative methods.Its Future of Employment and Skills Research Centre (FES) is seeking to appoint a full-time experienced Research Fellow to join their team on a 3-year contract. The position will provide the successful candidate with a variety of responsibilities that include, scoping and planning of research projects, data gathering and analysis, and development of comprehensive reports.Our ideal candidate is comfortable in working independently with a proven track record as a reliable and trusted team player. They can conduct research and engage with stakeholders all while understanding the need for discretion. The successful candidate will work alongside world-class researchers in a collegial and respectful environment to support and develop the Centre's research agenda. While holding a PhD in Economics is a desirable criterion, we will consider candidates currently completing a PhD in Economics or a related field (such as Statistics or Applied Data Science) and who have a strong research record and demonstrated research excellence (which may include experience in a consulting firm).We are looking for candidates who can carry out or lead research, scholarship, and professional activities. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate strong experience and interest in conducting commissioned research and ability to attract external funding for research for government departments. The School welcomes applications from diverse backgrounds.To be successful you will need:
- PhD in Economics is desirable, with consideration to candidates currently completing a PhD in Economics or a related field (such as Statistics or Applied Data Science).
- Demonstrated research experience, including academic and/or commissioned research for Government Departments.
- Expert knowledge of STATA and R softwares.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in quantitative methodologies, especially in the areas of Econometrics (Microeconometrics), Statistics, and Economic Modelling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate technical content to a wide audience of non-specialists.
- Demonstrated experience in writing research proposals and commissioned research tenders.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and experience in collaborating and engaging with diverse stakeholders, industry, and government partners.
- Demonstrated experience in undertaking collaborative research and establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and clients.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to meet competing deadlines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint.
- Hold an active Baseline Security Clearance or eligibility to obtain one upon commencement
- Experience with the ABS DataLab environment.
- Interest and experience in the area of Skills and Workforce planning.
- Demonstrated experience using ABS survey data.
- Experience using large longitudinal datasets such as HILDA or equivalent international datasets (such as BHPS, GSOEP, etc.).
