National parks include Torndirrup, Porongurup, Stirling Range, Fitzgerald River, West Cape Howe, Gull Rock, Waychinicup, Stokes, Cape Le Grand, and Cape Arid.We currently have an opportunity for a Conservation Operations Officer to join our team.Under the general supervision of the Conservation Officer Flora, the Conservation Operations Officer:
Undertakes surveys and monitoring of flora, and ecological communities to develop knowledge and understanding of the biology, ecology and distribution of threatened species, ecological communities and habitats of conservation significance within the Albany District.
Liaises with and provides advice to internal and external stakeholders including the community groups, state and local Government to achieve conservation outcomes.
Implements components of the Albany District conservation program.

In this role, you will demonstrate to help drive positive change.Selection CriteriaApplicants should address the following five (5) criteria. These should be addressed in no more five (5) pages in total. * Demonstrated knowledge of and experience of threatening processes, biodiversity conservation and management, with a preference for someone with knowledge of south-western Australia’s biodiversity and their habitats with a particular focus on flora.
Demonstrated experience in a broad range of flora survey and ecological monitoring techniques, with good skills in flora identification.
Demonstrated experience in collating and analysing data, managing datasets, and using computer skills for report writing, spreadsheets and creating databases, integrated with GIS applications for landscape mapping.
Experience, knowledge, and skills in leading and managing teams, working effectively as part of a team and independently; showing a high level of self-motivation, and organising and implementing works programs.
Evidence of well-developed oral and interpersonal skills and experience in effective and positive liaison with internal groups and external organisations, including other government agencies, indigenous and special interest groups, other staff, community groups and individuals.
The following essential criteria will be assessed at some stage during the selection process. Desirable criteria will be assessed as required. * Tertiary qualification in a relevant field relating to conservation/natural resource management or an approved equivalent.
Ability to pass the standard departmental fire fitness test and ongoing willingness and ability to participate in fire management activities that contribute to bushfire suppression and prescribed burning operations commensurate with capability, capacity, training, and level of experience.
Understanding of work, health and safety, and equity and diversity principles and practices.
Knowledge of the Conservation and Land Management Act 1984, Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and associated regulations. (Desirable)
Current First Aid Certificate. (Desirable)
