We are seeking a dedicated Community Liaison Officer to play a pivotal role in our surveillance program, working directly with Indigenous rangers. - Coordinate the delivery of biosecurity services with Indigenous ranger groups, providing essential training and support.
- Forge and maintain positive relationships with remote communities, focusing on Indigenous ranger groups.
- Identify and advocate for enhanced participation of Indigenous rangers in biosecurity efforts.
- Support community engagement activities aligned with scientific guidance and service priorities.
- Offer logistical support to scientific surveillance teams across various ecosystems.
- Develop and implement operational plans for contracted activities.
- Ensure timely and high-quality reporting and administrative duties.
- Adhere to safety, policy, and procedural standards, including field equipment management and compliance with national codes of conduct.
- Knowledgeable about biosecurity risks and experienced in working with Indigenous communities.
- Culturally aware, with sensitivity towards First Nations cultural and social contexts.
- Skilled in communication, with the ability to establish supportive, effective collaborations.
- Proficient in organizing fieldwork and managing remote travels independently.
- Competent in standard office software and adaptable to new technologies.
- Adept at managing time effectively and prioritizing tasks efficiently.
- Australian citizenship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting security clearance.
- Compliance with pre-employment screening processes.
- Relevant licenses for unescorted access within secured zones, if applicable.
- Up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations as per public health directives.
- Possession of a current manual driver's license and ability to drive a 4WD vehicle.
- note that you will be required to travel in remote/isolated locations in northern Australia or its near northern neighbours, using a variety of transport including vessels, light/commercial aircraft, helicopters and manual four-wheel drive vehicles
- note that you will be required, from time to time, to work in difficult, remote, and harsh environments (possibly for extended periods) under limited supervision or in teams
- Ability and willingness to undergo and complete specified training for the role.
This is a 12-month non-ongoing opportunity offering $72,002 - $78,386 + super with some work from home flexibility offered following training.This position is an 'Identified' position which signifies that the role has a strong involvement in issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
