Jawoyn traditional land stretches across 50,000 square kilometres in the Northern Territory.Your new roleWe are looking for two Ranger Coordinators at Jawoyn Rangers as the team continues to expand. One of these roles will oversee and coordinate the Ngalmuka (Women) rangers and the other role will coordinate the Mungguy (Men) rangers. There is work that is done together as a whole ranger team, but also some projects that are specific to Women and to Men.The Ranger Coordinators are responsible for managing a large team of Indigenous Rangers to deliver Conservation, Land Management and Cultural programs across the Jawoyn Country. The Ranger Coordinators work closely with the Land Manager, Fire Operations team, Healthy Country Projects Manager, Strongbala Wimun's Grup, and the Mungguy Men's Grup to deliver the annual Ranger work plan including fire management, feral animal & weed control, culture and knowledge transfer activities, and other projects outlined in the Healthy Country Plan.The Ranger Coordinators are responsible for coordinating daily work operations and delivering on Country activities, as well as supporting rangers during training, on-the-job mentoring, and developing systems and resources. The Ranger Coordinators report to the Land Manager and are guided by the Healthy Country Monitoring and Evaluation Committee and Jawoyn Board of Directors to ensure the work plan delivers on Traditional Owners' aspirations, as set out in the 10-year Healthy Country Plan.Some key tasks include:
  • Maintain accurate employee records.
  • Assist with internal and external recruitment related enquiries and requests with the support of Group HR Manager and Cultural Human Resource Administrator.
  • Provide administrative support to all employees and the Human Resources team.
  • Detailed record keeping to maintain an understanding of employee development and compliance.
  • Scheduling training, travel and accommodation arrangements.
  • Manage the recruitment process for entry level roles and some supervisory positions.
Selection Criteria:
  • Qualifications in natural resource management/environmental science or extensive relevant experience in land management and ranger program activities.
  • Practical skills in asset management of 4WDs, quad bikes, ATVs, back-pack blowers etc.
  • Strong understanding of fire management in savanna ecosystems.
  • Understanding of weed control and management, including using weed spraying equipment.
  • Good administration and computer literacy, ability to understand computer processing systems (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and databases (ESS database).
  • Experience using with GIS.
  • Ability to plan and organize a team of rangers, including an ability to prioritise multiple tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Excellent people management, communication, and engagement skills, including staff and contractor management, land councils, corporations, pastoralists, Government workers, park rangers, and researchers.
  • An understanding of cultural protocols, contemporary Aboriginal aspirations in land management and ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with Traditional Owners.
  • Current First Aid certificate or ability to acquire. Police Check and a Working with Children's Check (WCC) or ability to obtain one.
