Towards this end, CSIRO has recently formed a multidisciplinary team, in collaboration with the Minderoo Foundation, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of eDNA science through exploring eDNA enrichment, quantification and modelling/software methods.We are seeking a creative and motivated Early Career Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join this team. This is a unique opportunity to take a lead role in eDNA modelling and software development and to conduct large-scale re-analysis of existing and emerging eDNA metabarcoding datasets obtained in Australian coastal waters.Your high-level duties will include:
  • Conduct large-scale analysis of pre-existing and new eDNA metabarcoding datasets obtained in Australian coastal waters.
  • Co-develop a new computational tool and/or indices for detecting early signals of marine ecosystem change.
  • Lead the analysis and publication of research outcomes in high quality publications.
  • Carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD). The doctorate must be in a relevant discipline area, such as ecology, computational biology or bioinformatics. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (full-time equivalent) of relevant postdoctoral research experience.
  • Experience in analysing large, complex ecological or biodiversity datasets.
  • Strong proficiency in statistical modelling, including experience with species distribution models, community ecology metrics, or similar frameworks.
  • Strong programming skills in R, Python, or similar, with the ability to write reproducible, well-documented code.
  • Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) environments for large-scale data analysis, including workload managers such as SLURM.
