Job SummaryWe are looking for Emergency Response Team (ERT) Members to join our client, Thales, on casual assignment. Reporting to the Emergency Response Team Manager, you'll be on the front lines, providing critical support for all high-risk activities on naval and commercial vessels at the naval base; Garden Island.Part Time and Full Time Opportunities available, backgrounds in fire rescue encouraged to apply!About the RoleAs an ERT Member, your primary role is to ensure the safety and operational control of high-risk activities, particularly those involving Confined Spaces and Working at Heights. You will be an integral part of projects, assisting with emergency response, conducting safety inspections, and ensuring all activities comply with strict safety standards.Your responsibilities will include but are not limited too:
  • Emergency Support: Providing immediate support for all high-risk activities, including confined space entries and dock operations.
  • Operational Control: Working with project managers to control and monitor high-risk activities, ensuring compliance with procedures and safety standards.
  • Equipment Management: Conducting daily checks and inspections of all rescue equipment, maintaining accurate registers, and ensuring all gear is up-to-date and ready for use.
  • Training & Development: Participating in daily training activities, including rescue techniques, and attending accredited national training to maintain your skills.
  • Collaboration: Liaising with Navy, WHS, and project teams to implement best safety practices and participating in joint training exercises with external emergency services (NSW Police, Fire, and Ambulance).
  • Any additional duties required as per managers instructions
Key RequirementsTo be successful in this role, you must have a demonstrated understanding of high-risk activities with excellent communication skills.Required Qualifications (any tickets under 12 months)
  • Full working rights in Australia
  • Confined Space Rescue Certificate
  • Vertical Rescue Qualification
  • Work and Enter a Confined Space Certificate
  • Operate Breathing Apparatus – Open Circuit
  • Working at Heights
  • First Aid – Apply (Advanced First Aid preferred)
  • Construction White Card
  • Asbestos Handling (Bonded-Non-Friable) Awareness Level 1 (willing to obtain)
  • Vertical Rescue Qualification.
  • permit issuer and atmospheric gas tester experience with qualifications
  • Australian Defence Security Clearance: Baseline or NV1 (willing to obtain)
Required experience
  • Gas Test Atmospheres
  • Experience issuing work permits
  • First Aid – Perform rescue from a live LV panel.
  • Previous rescue experience on Defence or Commercial vessels (preferred)
