Job Description:Guardian Australia is part of Guardian News & Media (GNM), publisher of As a leading global media organisation, we are renowned for our pioneering independent journalism and our award-winning digital products.We are seeking a Human Resource Director to join a collaborative, fun, supportive, yet high performing team who are market leading and award winning. This role is a key member of our Senior Management team, leading Guardian Australia's human resources department, including employee and industrial relations, diversity and inclusion, recruitment, staff training and development and workplace regulatory compliance.In this role you will…
  • Implement, review and update HR policies and procedures, as required
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes and employment law and provide expert advice to the Managing Director, Editor, Managing Editor, CFO and other senior leaders across the business
  • Ensure HR plans align with local and global strategic objectives
  • Work with the Managing Director, Editor and Managing Editor to manage resourcing for commercial and editorial teams
  • Be the main point of contact for the UK HR team, ensuring best practice and taking advantage of economies of scale
  • Manage HR budget, including for training and development
  • Support Senior HR Manager - Commercial with the ongoing implementation and operation of Guardian Australia's global HRIS, Oracle Fusion
  • Role model Guardian Australia's values and behaviours and drive/reinforce company culture
ER/IR
  • Apply Awards/ National Employment Standards and interpret as required, while keeping up to date with IR changes and developments
  • Support managers with disciplinary, grievance, sensitive employee cases and complex employee relations matters and manage investigations as required. Log all work in a case management tool
  • Lead the effective management of organisational change, including restructures
  • Implement, administer and interpret Guardian Australia's Enterprise Agreement
  • Manage all IR matters
  • Represent Guardian Australia in union negotiations
  • Ensure compliance with workplace laws and liaise with external organisations as appropriate to facilitate and enable effective and legally compliant employee relations
  • In collaboration with HR Managers, provide advice to managers on a range of general HR areas including: reward, people development, contractual issues, organisation change
Staff training and development
  • Oversee Guardian Australia's performance and development review process, encouraging managers to conduct annual performance discussions and set development plans
  • Oversee facilitation of staff development and training programs
  • Lead compensation review and any other cyclical activity determined by internal policy or external legal / compliance requirements
Diversity and Inclusion
  • Promote a diverse, inclusive and representative workplace that is fair, accessible, respectful and flexible and supports Guardian Australia's vision to reflect the diversity of the audience we serve
  • Proactively drive and implement GA's diversity and inclusion strategy
  • Act as the 'RAP Champion' for
, including raising the profile of reconciliation as an organisational priority, chairing the RAP working group, developing and launching future RAPs and leading by example and actioning assigned actions and deliverables * Oversee the diversity and inclusion forum and help define and drive key areas of focus, monitor performance and ensure all efforts are aligned with Guardian Australia's diversity and inclusion strategic objectives
  • Oversee the implementation of training programs and initiatives that contribute to creating a more diverse and inclusive workplace
Employee Engagement
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve Guardian Australia's staff engagement, with a view to creating a strong and supportive staff culture
Recruitment
  • Oversee recruitment activity and ensure all recruitment practices adhere to Guardian Australia's recruitment policy
Workplace Health & Safety
  • Promote a safe and secure workplace
  • Work with management and internal communications to manage the internal response to crisis situations
You'll bring….
  • 10-15+ years of HR experience
  • Experience with IR and working in a unionised environment, including experience working with union representatives and employee delegates
  • Experience negotiating and implementing enterprise agreements (desirable)
  • A passion for diversity and inclusion, including experience developing and implementing diversity and inclusion strategies, policies, programs and initiatives
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • An interest in, and understanding of, the Guardian's editorial values and brand
  • Experience working within, or good appreciation of, working within a busy editorial media organisation
  • Thorough understanding and application of relevant employment laws and enterprise bargaining agreements
  • Experience and capability in conducting workplace investigations
  • Understanding of sensitivities surrounding information going into the public domain
  • Relevant administration experience across payroll, rostering and HR functions
  • Experience in monitoring and improving employee engagement
  • Experience managing and mentoring junior members of staff
  • Demonstrable track record in working in a fast-paced, high volume role and deadline-driven environment
  • Experience dealing with a diverse range of stakeholders and situations
  • Knowledge and interest in current affairs
