About the Role The successful applicant will have at least 3 years industry experience, will be motivated, dedicated and have a genuine love of horses. You will work closely with, and under the guidance of the Stable Forepersons and, the Trainer Mr. Matthew Hahne. The right applicant will have the opportunity to learn and grow within the role and responsibility will increase with consistently demonstrated ability. It is a full time (38 hours per week) salaried position. You will be required to work on public holidays on a rotational basis where possible and to work a reasonable number of additional hours where required including race day attendance. Experience/Qualifications Certificate III or equivalent international qualification or at least 3 years full-time or equivalent relevant experience Minimum 1 years full-time or equivalent skilled experience. Proven knowledge and experience of horse handling and training methods specific to the thoroughbred racing industry. Safe operation of all training/racing equipment and personal safety equipment. Handling horses from yearlings upwards with a variety of temperaments. Proven ability to train and educate racehorses, including educating horses on the ground, riding fast & slow work including swimming & barrier work. Ability to work in a team and independently. Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses. Other Skills Strong organisational skills Ability to communicate effectively with the Trainer, Staff, Owners and Officials and prepare reports where required. Ability to follow direction. Ability to manage a team of horses and staff under the guidance of the Foreman and/or Trainers. Duties and Responsibilities Implement and manage the training plan for each horse as set out by the Trainer. Prioritise, co-ordinate and delegate tasks on a daily basis and make adjustments where necessary based on weather and staff changes and the racing schedule. Report and liaise on a daily basis with the Trainers. Monitor and Manage Horse Welfare. Stable work and farm work as required. Ensure all records are updated on a daily basis in accordance with requirements of Racing Australia. Manage minor conflicts with staff. Attend Barrier Trials. Attend Race Meetings as the Stable Representative as required. Ensure OH& S standards are adhered to.
