St Vincent’s Private Hospital Melbourne (SVPHM) is a facility of St Vincent’s Health Australia under the stewardship of Mary Aikenhead Ministries. We are a not-for-profit Catholic private hospital which operates across four sites at Fitzroy, East Melbourne, Kew, and Werribee.ABOUT YOUR NEW ROLE:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Nurse Unit Manager for our Day Oncology Unit based at our Fitzroy campus. This is a full-time Maternity Leave and Long Service Leave temporary 14-month position. Reporting to the General Manager/Director of Clinical Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our 7 chair unit as well as providing leadership that promotes the advancement of clinical practice.You will be managing our wonderful supportive caring team that provides patients with many different infusions including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, iron infusions, and blood transfusions. All our staff are chemotherapy competent and we follow EVIQ guidelines.The successful candidate will need to demonstrate extensive leadership experience in this area whilst being driven to ensure a high quality of patient-centred care is delivered ensuring an exceptional patient experience. They must also have strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with all key stakeholders, including their peers, the Allied Health Team, and our Accredited Medical Practitioners (AMPs).This is a very exciting time to be joining our organisation. Work is underway on a 12-story Fitzroy Tower redevelopment scheduled to open mid-2024.Responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to);
  • Provide direction, support, and advice to nursing staff and other support personnel
  • Establish and develop effective relationships with staff, AMPs, patients, families, and significant others
  • Act as a positive role model maintaining the unit and hospital policies and procedures
  • Exhibit leadership qualities and utilise team-building strategies to promote a continuous improvement culture leading to improved patient outcomes and experience
  • Lead the team for efficient and effective management of resources by promoting flexibility and responsiveness to ensure alignment with activity
The successful candidate will have;
  • Current registered nurse with AHPRA registration
  • Experience and understanding of Day Oncology nursing is essential
  • Ability to influence and lead continuous quality of care improvements
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in the use of IT platforms such as IBA(Webpas), IMC, Kronos, and Riskman, or similar
