How will you make an impact?Are you passionate about making a positive impact to our members' dignified retirement?You will play a pivotal role in providing strategic legal advice and support to our Investment team.The opportunityAs a lawyer in the Investment team at Hostplus, you will play an important role in providing strategic legal advice and support to our high performing and award-winning Investment strategy and Investment operations teams. Reporting directly to the Head of Investments - Legal, you will undertake the crucial responsibility of overseeing all legal facets of our investment activities, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and commercial effectiveness.Key Responsibilities:
  • Assisting with legal due diligence for investments across diverse asset classes including equities, private equity, credit, alternatives, property, and infrastructure.
  • Liaising with external legal advisors to secure pragmatic and cost-efficient legal counsel, while ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Negotiating and managing complex investment-related documentation across all asset classes.
  • Delivering timely and commercially sound legal advice on investment activities and related commercial ventures.
  • Overseeing investment-related projects resulting from regulatory changes, policy updates, and internal initiatives.
  • Contributing to the enhancement and implementation of legal initiatives pertaining to due diligence processes, precedents, and control mechanisms.

  • Bachelor of Laws and admitted to practice in an Australian State or Territory.
  • Minimum 4 years PQE in financial services working as a funds lawyer and/or corporate transactional lawyer.
  • Exceptional communication skills and well-rounded interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust with and the confidence of colleagues and stakeholders across different levels and locations.
  • Agile and adaptable, able to manage competing priorities and capable of managing legal matters of all sizes and levels of complexity.
  • You can work autonomously, whilst also being able to provide support to the Head of Investments - Legal for various projects and requests.
  • A proactive approach, with strong attention to detail and a curious mindset.
