At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.Your impactWe are seeking a Principal Ecologist to join our experienced and expanding NSW Team.The Jacobs Ecology team deliver complex and technically challenging local, state and national projects for clients involved in a wide range of infrastructure and development activities, including public utilities, renewable energy, resource projects, transport infrastructure, and large-scale environmental management and monitoring programs. We are seeking to appoint a highly skilled Principal Ecologist, to join our growing team, based in our North Sydney office. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the expansion of our ecological services and work on impactful projects across Australia.The purpose of this role is to provide technical and professional leadership, project management and business development support within our Ecology team in NSW and other regions across Australia as required. Primary responsibilities will include:
  • High quality project delivery: Demonstrate high-quality communications and engagement, evidenced by positive client and project team feedback. Ensure best practice technical delivery in line with Commonwealth and state policies and legislations. Actively share knowledge with team members to support the technical delivery on other projects.
  • Relationship and business development activities: Build and take ownership of relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders to increase the visibility of the Section, actively seek opportunities to position our services during Opening and Middle Game and lead the preparation of End Game business development activities, including attending client pitches.
  • Thought leadership: Lead thought leadership initiatives to position Jacobs as a leading provider of contemporary communication and engagement services. Coach others in the team to develop skills and confidence in thought leadership.
  • Mentoring junior staff: Be proactive in mentoring other team members to contribute to continual improvement and excellent client service.
  • Positive team culture: Demonstrate a positive and 'can do' attitude, ensuring alignment with Jacobs values.
The Principal Ecologist role offers flexible working arrangements, with options for both full-time and part-time employment to support work-life balance.Here's what you'll need.
  • Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) accredited.
  • Degree in a relevant science discipline (ecology, environmental science, natural resource management).
  • Experience in the delivery of ecology projects with a focus on flora survey, preferably in the Sydney Bioregion (NSW).
  • Experience in, and desire to be involved in business development.
  • Willingness to undertake intra or interstate travel, including the occasional extended trip (negotiable).
  • Highly developed report writing skills.
