Cornish Group PL has an opportunity become available at Torryburn Stud in Torryburn, NSW in the full-time of role Horse Trainer/Breeding. Duties will include:
  • Overseeing daily care and supervision of horses
  • Educating and preparing young stock for sale
  • Early education of foals and weanlings
  • Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy
  • Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatment to foals
The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of industry best practice, with either international experience or a thorough understanding of the global bloodstock trends of the thoroughbred industry. Suitable Applicant will have the following: Essential Criteria
  • A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification, or in the absence of a qualification a minimum of three years’ professional full-time experience educating and training horses
  • A minimum of two years’ equivalent full-time experience handling and working with and educating thoroughbred horses
  • Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds, including stallions, sales or breeding
  • Proven ability to train and educate young horses
  • Oral and written communication skills of a level to take instruction; provide information and advice to others and prepare basic reports
  • Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses
This is a full-time position, and the suitable applicant will need to commit to a minimum of two-years employment. A salary package (including accommodation on farm) of between $75,000 and $77,000 per annum will apply to the above position.
