The Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader who will lead a diverse, and multidisciplinary team that assesses FAS applications, and provides victim recognition engagement with a focus on delivering an inclusive, trauma-informed and victim-focused service. A leader who is agile, is able to enagge in high level complex decision making and who has robust operational acumen.About the Business Unit:The FAS is highly anticipated by victims and stakeholders and represents a major leap forward in the Victorian Government's response to victims of crime. Established under the Victims of Crime (Financial Assistance Scheme) Act 2022 (the Act) the FAS will provide financial assistance through a simple and easy to navigate process that is fair, sensitive, and responsive to victims' needs. It will acknowledge harm done and be trauma informed, inclusive and culturally safe.About the Role:Reporting to the Director (Deputy Decision Maker) Assessment, you will be responsible for the management of a team that assesses financial assistance applications, provides victim recognition statements, and coordinates victim recognition meetings.Some of your duties will include:
  • Leading a team of senior assessors, assessors, and recognition support officers, supporting them to deliver quality services and ensuring they meet service targets and functional responsibilities
  • Leading and managing daily operations, including allocation of resources, management of incoming work, communication with staff and stakeholders, completion of reports and auditing outputs
  • Being the point of escalation and provision of advice on applications - this includes considering and determining complex applications as per the Act, established policy, guidelines, and procedures.

  • Extensive experience in management of teams with decision-making functions
  • A strong ability in diplomacy and judgement to provide accurate, clear, and comprehensive decisions within defined time frames
  • A deep commitment to actively pursuing a culturally safe workplace and organisation and improved outcomes for Aboriginal people, aligned with the principle of self-determination.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience in community services, social work, criminology, psychology, victim services and/or family violence is essential.
