About the roleAre you passionate about creating safer, more welcoming public spaces? As the City Issues Officer, you’ll be at the forefront of initiatives that shape how people experience the City of Melbourne every day.Working closely with the Program Manager City Issues, you’ll help deliver projects that improve safety, enhance public amenity, and build stronger community connections. You’ll collaborate with residents, businesses, and a wide network of internal and external partners to identify and resolve issues that affect how people feel and move through the city.As a key liaison for customers facing complex place-based safety challenges, you will coordinate stakeholders and encourage appropriate action. Building and maintaining rapport will be essential to your success and ability to positively influence outcomes.Your work will intersect with issues affecting vulnerable community members, particularly in the context of supporting enforcement functions. While you may not engage directly with individuals, your role will require an understanding of the broader social context and the ability to approach these responsibilities with empathy, pragmatism, and professionalism.Joining the City Safety, Security and Amenity branch means becoming part of a bold, values-led team that responds to real issues and contributes to Melbourne’s pulse. Your excellent customer service and stakeholder engagement skills enable you to interact with poise and authenticity in any setting and drive you to simplify the customer’s experience where possible.You remain calm and composed in challenging environments, using your strong written and verbal communication abilities to foster trust and cooperation across diverse community groups with competing priorities. You work well autonomously or as part of a team.You will also bring
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop creative and practical solutions for complex issues.
  • Demonstrated experience developing constructive relationships with diverse communities, people, organisations and partners
  • Demonstrated skills in project management and ability to implement outcomes using a variety of skills.
  • Excellent skills in written and oral communication and an ability to proactively maintain and adapt communication styles based on organisation preferences.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of contract management
Desirable:
  • Demonstrated experience working in or with the public sector
