As the Technical Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading the delivery of digital and technology-enabled projects that support the department’s strategic objectives. You’ll oversee the full project lifecycle - from scoping and planning through to execution and closure - while navigating complex technical environments and managing multiple stakeholders.This role is ideal for a proactive and solutions-focused professional who thrives in a dynamic ICT environment and can confidently coordinate across business and technical teams. You will work in close partnership with the Portfolio Manager and Enterprise Architect to ensure alignment with governance frameworks, architectural standards, and broader ICT priorities.The roleThe Project Manager will initially lead the Tenancy Transition Project - a high-priority initiative involving the transition of ICT tenancy agreements and services to a new provider or internal model. This is a high-visibility role with strong cross-functional engagement. Beyond this, the department is undergoing a major ICT uplift, including a new service delivery model that involves exploring the expansion of its ITSM platform to create a streamlined digital front door. There’s an opportunity for the right candidate to influence and lead components of this broader transformation. The PM may also be assigned to lead other ICT-led or business-initiated projects as required, depending on departmental priorities.Our client is seeking someone with the technical literacy to navigate complex ICT environments, interpret risks and constraints, and translate technical concepts effectively for business stakeholders. This role requires a PM who can confidently lead digital initiatives end-to-end, ensuring alignment between delivery teams and business outcomes.As the Technical Project Manager, you will:
  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple IT projects concurrently, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Work with stakeholders to define project requirements, scope, objectives, and success criteria.
  • Collaborate closely with the Portfolio Manager and Enterprise Architect to ensure project alignment with strategic priorities, architectural standards and governance requirements.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources, including technical teams, vendors, and service providers.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, including project plans, risk registers, and status reports.
  • Manage project risks and issues proactively and escalate where appropriate.
  • Facilitate effective communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all projects adhere to governance standards, including change management and quality assurance processes.
  • Monitor and report on project progress to senior management and governance bodies.
  • Support procurement activities, including drafting technical requirements and evaluating vendor proposals.
  • Promote continuous improvement and lessons learned across all project activities.
Essential skills and experience:
  • Strong experience in managing IT infrastructure, cloud, and application development projects.
  • Proficiency with project management tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, PRINCE2, PMBOK).
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work across multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Technical literacy to understand complex ICT environments and translate technical concepts for business audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage vendor relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working in or with government or large enterprise environments
