About the opportunityThe Faculty of Medicine and Health is running a research project to develop an evaluation tool for the impact of health and medical research. We are seeking a Research Program Manager to lead the day-to-day governance and operational tasks required to deliver a research program to develop effective tools for the evaluation of the impact of health and medical research in NSW. The Research Program Manager will lead the program’s operations and is responsible for the effective operational leadership and management of the program’s activities in the areas of research, industry partner liaison and external engagement.The Research Program Manager will provide high level operational and management support, strategic business planning and advice to the Chief Investigator to manage the development and implementation of the program. The Research manager must have strong expertise in research, be capable of writing scientific reports and of analysing the literature. The incumbent will use these skills to play an active role in research study and design, ethics approvals, research commercialisation, consulting with key stakeholders and managing the research collaborators.Your key responsibilities will be to:
  • provides overall program management for multiple research projects including establishing project organisation structures, and embedding project governance and controls, project plans, tracking systems, and reporting guidelines
  • works in collaboration with academic researchers to develop action plans for research work being undertaken by the work area
  • develops and manages the research project’s budget/expenditure including grants and/or faculty funded arrangements in collaboration with the Chief Investigator and Senior Faculty Management
  • manage research services and resources provided in accordance with those agreements and ensure that results are delivered within expected timeframes/deadlines
  • develops and implements communication strategies and plans designed to meet the key information requirements and needs of internal and external stakeholders to the University
  • ensures that governance and ethics requirements for research projects being undertaken by the work area are addressed and met appropriately
  • provides effective leadership and management guidance and support to the research staff in the work area including feedback, coaching and support for individual performance, career, and talent development, to build an effective and high performing team.
About you
  • has demonstrated experience in the leadership and management of complex projects ideally in research or health system management
  • excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day-to-day operational matters
  • strong research training in a relevant discipline
  • excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and achieve required outcomes
  • has experience in research management within Australian higher education and/or health systems
  • has knowledge of research assessment frameworks, in Australia and internationally.
