Join the Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) in a dynamic and respected regulatory role. We are seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Environmental Assessment and Compliance Officer to help shape the responsible development of South Australia's upstream energy resource and emerging hydrogen and renewable energy sectors.This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your expertise in environmental regulation to support sustainable industry practices that protect South Australia’s natural and social environments.About the opportunity:
You will play a vital part in the environmental assessment, monitoring, and compliance oversight of energy resource operations regulated under the Energy Resources Act 2000 and the Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Act.You will assess complex technical submissions, undertake field inspections, and collaborate with a range of stakeholders to ensure compliance with legislative and environmental objectives.Your key responsibilities will be Environmental Assessment & Approvals, Compliance Assurance and Data Management.For more information please see the role statement.About us:

Selection Criteria:
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate -
  • Strong knowledge of energy resource environmental regulation and compliance.
  • Experience evaluating environmental documentation and conducting risk-based assessments.
  • Ability to plan and undertake field audits and site inspections.
  • Skilled in building effective working relationships with government, industry, and the community.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement.
  • High standards of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to continuous learning.
Qualifications:
Essential: A degree qualification in a scientific or engineering discipline relevant to environmental management.
Desirable: Regulatory/industry experience relevant to environmental management.Remuneration:
PO2 salary range $88,255 - $97,667 per annum + superannuation
Full-time role, working 37.5 hours per weekSpecial Conditions:
  • Out of hours work and intra and interstate travel involving overnight absences will be required.
  • A current Drivers’ License is required.
  • Term contract up to 24 months.
