It also plays a key role in enhancing the workplace experience for over 53,000 employees by providing cutting-edge tools and technologies that empower teams to work more effectively and deliver greater value to customers.In this role, you’ll join the Digital and Customer Crew within CommSec, Australia’s largest online retail stockbroker, where you’ll lead a team of six engineers as the Senior Engineering Manager – Mobile Chapter Lead. You’ll be responsible for driving technical excellence, influencing architecture and AI strategies, and delivering scalable investment solutions. This hands-on leadership role spans development and operations, offering the opportunity to shape CommSec’s engineering transformation while collaborating across the broader CBA network.We’re interested in hearing from people who:

  • Support mission-critical operations and navigate complex stakeholder environments.
  • Advocate for innovation, new technologies, and effective architectural integration.
Tech skillsWe use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We do not expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team.
  • Technical expertise across full-cycle software engineering, as well as a track record of leading high-performing engineering teams.
  • Strong application architecture in web and mobile.
  • Proficiency in Android((Kotlin/Java) or iOS (Swift) development
  • Front End Technology ReactJs, NextJs, React, Redux (preferred) or Angular.
  • JavaScript frameworks NestJs, Apollo GraphQL.
  • Microsoft .Net Technologies such as C#, .Net Framework, .Net Core, MVC, Web API are desirable but not mandatory.
  • Expertise with Designing and implementing microservices and highly scalable APIs, GraphQL API and Restful API design patterns.
  • Databases – PostgreSQL, Oracle.
  • DevOps and CI/CD – Github Actions, TeamCity. Docker and Kubernetes experience.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus/Grafana, Observe, AWS CloudWatch.
  • AI & Machine learning and LLM knowledge is desired. GenAI tools – Cline, Cursor, AWS Bedrock.
  • Expertise with Security Engineering principles and implementation.
  • Cloud native development - AWS preferred. AWS Certification is a bonus.
  • Understanding on DevSecOps environment and landscape, SRE Practices
  • Working with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Octopus etc.
  • Leveraging IaC tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Driving quality with modern automated testing.
  • Designing robust systems and solutions with a focus on security and scalability.
  • Ensuring observability and performance monitoring.
  • Promoting code quality through peer programming, code reviews, and automated release pipelines.
