Job DescriptionThe RoleAs a Crisis Support Worker, you will play a vital role in delivering end-to-end support for clients through our Homestay Early Intervention Outreach Program. This program helps people maintain successful tenancies across private, social, community, and public housing.You will provide holistic case management and outreach support, working both autonomously and collaboratively to empower clients with the tools, information, and resources they need to sustain their housing and improve their overall quality of life.Key responsibilities include:Providing holistic, end-to-end client support tailored to individual needs and goals.Undertaking case management activities to assist clients to obtain and maintain housing, while building independence, self-reliance, and connection with community supports.Conducting initial and ongoing assessments, including strengths-based, risk, and safety planning assessments where appropriate.Delivering outreach crisis support, offering proactive, practical, and reliable assistance that respects the dignity and privacy of clients.Developing client-centred case management plans in line with organisational policies and procedures.Supporting clients to sustain tenancy through advice, advocacy, budgeting support, and linking with appropriate services.This is a Permanent, Full-time position (38 hours per week) based in Cairns.Desired Skills and ExperienceTo be successful in the role, you will meet the following criteria:
  • Minimum Certificate III in Community Services or related field
  • Knowledge of and ability to work within relevant legislation and guidelines relating to the delivery of specialist homelessness services
  • Previous experience as a Support Worker or equivalent within the homelessness support sector or related field
  • Ability to deliver advocacy on behalf of clients and always ensure confidentiality of client information
  • Ability to work unsupervised at times as well as an effective team member
  • Contribute positively within a team environment
  • Demonstrate a friendly, positive attitude, with a willingness to learn
  • Effective communication and time management skills
  • Demonstrate genuine respect for all people regardless of their situation
  • Understanding of risk management principles including current WHS legislation and regulations
  • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society
