Communications Advisor & Communications Officer (x2 roles)
Location: Nerang, QLD
Contract Type: 6-month labour hire contracts
Rate: Adviser role $67 per hour + super | Officer role $58 per hour + superBe part of infrastructure that connects communities. We're seeking two skilled communications professionals, a Communications Advisor and a Communications Officer, to support major road infrastructure projects through effective engagement, media relations, and public communications.Role 1 - Communications Advisor
Deliver strategic communication across high-impact infrastructure projects. As Communications Advisor, you'll work closely with project managers, technical experts, and regional stakeholders to lead community and stakeholder engagement. This role is responsible for strategic communication planning, managing critical conversations, and providing guidance on issues management, media liaison, and public affairs.Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic communication advice to project leaders on stakeholder engagement and sensitive community issues.
  • Lead the development of communication materials including media releases, ministerial briefs, newsletters, flyers, and speech notes.
  • Design and deliver stakeholder management and engagement strategies to support project outcomes.
  • Coordinate engagement activities, community events, road launches, and media opportunities.
  • Guide and support staff on communication tools and techniques, including risk and issues management.
  • Develop and implement communication plans aligned to project milestones and community needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, governance, and departmental policies.
About You:
  • Strong experience in stakeholder engagement, media, or public relations, preferably in infrastructure or major project environments.
  • Skilled in navigating critical conversations and managing high-risk or sensitive community concerns.
  • Excellent writing, planning, and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to mentor and advise others on best-practice communication approaches.
Role 2 - Communications Officer
Support consistent, high-quality communication across programs. In this role, you'll provide day-to-day communication and correspondence support to program managers, ensuring that stakeholders and the public receive timely, accurate information. You'll play a key role in maintaining internal systems, supporting media responses, and drafting content that informs and engages.Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with research and preparation of briefing notes, correspondence, and draft media statements.
  • Respond to region-related media and public enquiries in coordination with the wider team.
  • Support the development and delivery of internal and external communications.
  • Maintain records and ensure data integrity in project correspondence.
  • Promote continuous improvement in internal communication practices.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external contacts.
About You:
  • Sound written communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience or tertiary training in communications, stakeholder engagement, or media.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to team-based work.
Mandatory Requirements (both roles):
  • Current Class C driver’s licence and access to your own vehicle (travel costs not included).
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment checks (e.g. criminal history screening).
  • Construction Industry White Card (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
Desirable:
  • Tertiary qualification in communications, PR, journalism or similar.
  • Previous experience in infrastructure, government, or civil project environments.
  • Social media and digital communication capabilities.
  • IAP2 or equivalent community engagement training.
  • Familiarity with the infrastructure planning lifecycle.
