You’ll manage all phases of project development from feasibility studies and concept design to approvals, procurement, construction, and handover while ensuring alignment with Council’s strategic goals and community expectations. This role involves supervising consultants and contractors, external project managers, managing risks, budgets, and compliance, and fostering collaboration across internal teams, service units, and community user groups. You’ll also contribute to long-term capital works planning, continuous improvement initiatives, and digital innovation to enhance service delivery.The current portfolio of projects includes the Leichhardt Oval refurbishment and the Leichhardt Park Aquatics Centre Upgrade.Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver major capital projects with a strong focus on quality, timeliness, and budget control.
  • Lead project planning, design, approvals, procurement, and contract management.
  • Conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with WHS and legislative requirements.
  • Engage stakeholders and community groups to ensure transparency and satisfaction.
  • Manage risks, variations, delays, and reporting across all project phases.
  • Support strategic planning, feasibility assessments, and prioritisation of future projects.
  • Monitor team performance, budgets, and operational standards.
  • Promote continuous improvement and digital capability across the team.
Please read the to familiarise yourself with all the requirements and conditions of the role.Please note this is a temporary position up to 18 months$136,983.08 - $149,199.96 + 12% SuperannuationSome of the required skills, experience and qualificationsEssential requirements * Tertiary qualification in Architecture, Engineering, Building or other related fields with project management units.
  • Significant experience in project management including ability to develop, coordinate and deliver projects that meet quality, time and cost requirements and the ability to develop sound, practical/workable and innovative solutions to resolve problems or activate a project plan.
  • Strong negotiation skills, interpersonal, communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills
  • High level understanding of construction industry and construction site WHS and Environmental management requirements
  • High level computer skills and proficient in the use of finance, Microsoft project and Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Demonstrated procurement, budget management, contract administration and negotiation skills with the ability to adapt to shifting priorities and competing deadlines.
  • High level analytical and problem-solving skills with the capacity to inspire or support innovative thinking.
  • Ability to establish and maintain respectful and professional interactions with members of staff and of a diverse community and provide advice/services, problem solve and handle a range of issues including difficult or challenging customers.
  • Significant experience in successfully delivering complex construction projects

Desirable Criteria: * Experience in Prince 2 project management methodology or similar methodologies
  • Knowledge of local government functions.
