The Research Data Manager will be responsible for redeveloping the databases, systems, data flows, and data collection processes related to the Variants in Practice (ViP) study. This work will enhance data quality and operational efficiency, ensuring the evolving needs of current and future projects are met.The data manager will collaborate with the National Cancer Cohort Platform (NCCP) team to understand project requirements and then develop and implement a plan to transform ViP study databases and data accordingly.In addition to supporting the ViP study, the role will contribute to other PFCC research projects by maintaining and improving existing databases, performing data quality checks and designing and building new databases and systems as required. - Tertiary qualification in health, medical, or biological sciences. Qualifications in information technology will also be considered with relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in managing research data, including the design, development, and maintenance of research databases.
- Advanced computer literacy and strong proficiency in research database systems.
- Solid understanding of research data management principles, including relevant policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and methodical in approach.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience working with oncology and/or genetics data
- Experience with REDCap, Progeny and Microsoft Access
- Working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, and SQL for database customization and troubleshooting.
- Experience in drafting and maintaining research data documentation, including Data Management Plans.
1. Review and redevelopment of databases, systems and processes related to the ViP study
- Undertake a review of the existing databases, systems, data flows and data collection processes related to the Variants in Practice (ViP) study.
- Develop and execute a plan to update and improve ViP study data and associated systems, ensuring that the plan aligns with best practice, institutional policies and relevant research guidelines.
- Identify issues, risks and benefits of current and future solutions.
- Collaborate closely with the National Cancer Cohort Platform (NCCP) project team members and stakeholders to understand the needs and requirements of this project. Actively participate in NCCP project meetings and design activities. Develop and implement a plan for transforming ViP study data and databases to align with NCCP project requirements including processes to map, covert, clean and transfer study data.
- Assist with maintaining and improving existing Parkville Familial Cancer Centre (PFCC) project databases and systems.
- Design and administer data quality checks to proactively identify and manage data integrity issues.
- Design, build and test new databases as required.
- Support the Parkville Familial Cancer Centre to improve efficiency, maximise research outputs and collect high-quality research data.
- Train and provide technical advice to PFCC colleagues on the use of research databases and data collection processes.
- Prepare and maintain technical and other documentation including Data Management Plans, Standard Operating Procedures and data dictionaries for the ViP study, and other PFCC research projects as required.
- Actively participate in research team meetings, education and activities.
- Keep up to date with research data management software, institutional policies and best practice in research data management.
