We’re doing it with our customers and communities as Australia’s energy infrastructure partner, a role our unique experience and expertise positions us to play.We have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Legal Counsel - Energy Solutions and Delivery to join the APA Legal, Governance & Regulatory team in Brisbane (preferred), will consider, Sydney, Melbourne or Perth, on a permanent fulltime basis.Reporting to the Group Counsel - Energy Solutions & Delivery, the primary objective of this position is to effectively partner with APA’s business to provide pragmatic and strategic legal advice and services enabling delivery of Major Projects for the APA Group within APA’s risk appetite.Key Responsibilities
  • Delivery of effective, timely, commercial and pragmatic legal advice in relation to Energy Projects (on the whole of project basis) and associated general commercial advisory and dispute resolution, including, a wide range of project documents required for any greenfield or brownfield major energy (gas, electricity, hydrogen etc) or renewable energy projects
  • Joint venture / bidding agreements, and other documentation for early-stage development projects such as HOAs, MOUs, LOIs and term sheets
  • General and ancillary commercial contracts for all business units, such as recoverable works agreements
  • High level regulatory matters, including gas inquiries and ring-fencing issues
  • Management of legal risk in relation to major projects and commercial areas across the APA business
  • Assist the Group Counsel in the design, implementation and governance of standards and processes to drive efficiency in the use of legal services, including self-service tools and guidance materials
Your background
  • Admitted to practice as a Legal Practitioner in Australia with a current practising certificate
  • Strong and extensive hands-on experience advising on major projects (whole of projects, front and back end) across a wide range of project documents, including regulatory experience, with exposure to construction law / construction contracts
  • Excellent contract interpretation, drafting and associated dispute resolution experience
  • Advanced knowledge of major projects gained from law firm training, preferably coupled with in-house experience, with demonstrated subject matter expertise in this area
  • Technical skills to drive strategy and work as ‘trusted advisor’ to the business unsupervised and comfortable dealing with ambiguity and change
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, collaborative and the ability to work with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
