- Contracts preparation & negotiation- Drafting and negotiation of all customer contracts, including standard and bespoke agreements, variation agreements, promotion letters, notices, novation agreements, settlement agreements and termination agreements.
- Compliance - Drafting and negotiating contracts to align with the applicable Sale Contracts Policy and applicable legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Legal support - Working closely with the Legal team, the Commercial Contracts Manager provides the first level of legal support and guidance to the Optus Wholesale Division.
- Credit and legal risk control - Ensuring commercial contracts minimise Optus' exposure to operational, legal, financial and credit risks.
- Regulatory engagement - Interface with Optus' regulatory team on key regulatory issues affecting Optus involving strategic, operational, technical and legal compliance issues.
- Leadership - Being a trusted advisor and partner to the Optus Wholesale Division, providing legal and commercial guidance to support sound decision-making and risk mitigation (working with the Legal team).
- Process improvement - Implementing and continually improving the contract governance process which tracks contracts end-to-end from contract draft request to signing.
- Legal drafting experience and a legal academic background, such as a law degree or equivalent qualifications.
- Extensive years of relevant work experience in contract drafting, negotiation, legal risk management, compliance, and governance. Some prior experience as a lawyer in private practice or as an inhouse legal counsel is very strongly preferred, given how important drafting skills are to the role.
- Ability to draft bespoke legal and commercial terms without precedents.
- Attention to detail, excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision or assistance.
- Commercial foundations and business acumen.
- Understanding of telecommunications operations and/or a wholesale environment is desirable.
- 3 days in the office, 2 days remote - with flexible hours to suit.
