Opportunities are available for Staff Specialists or Visiting Medical Officers in Anaesthesia, with multiple permanent full-time or part-time positions offered to suitable applicants.The Anaesthesia Department plays a vital role in the delivery of surgical and procedural services, supporting a wide range of specialties and ensuring high standards of patient care across all stages of the perioperative journey.Hospital
The department operates within a modern, purpose-built facility equipped with advanced operating theatres, state-of-the-art monitoring systems, and contemporary recovery and day-stay units.Expansion is underway to increase capacity, ultimately accommodating eight operating theatres and two procedural rooms, along with enhanced support for interventional radiology and cardiology. A well-resourced Level 5 Intensive Care Unit provides critical care and post-operative support for complex cases.Anaesthetic services are provided across a diverse set of specialties, including general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, urology, ENT, paediatrics, and ophthalmology. Anaesthetic support is also available for endoscopy, diagnostic imaging, and a variety of interventional procedures. The department maintains a strong focus on collaborative care, with a multidisciplinary team of specialists working closely with surgeons, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to ensure comprehensive and safe patient outcomes. Pre-operative assessment clinics and both acute and chronic pain management services further support patient needs.The service also plays a key role in obstetric care for the surrounding region, offering anaesthetic support for labour and delivery, including epidurals and emergency caesarean sections. With a strong emphasis on education and training, the department actively contributes to the supervision and development of medical students, junior doctors, and anaesthetic trainees. Accredited training pathways are available for ANZCA trainees, GP anaesthetic training, and extended skills development in emergency and intensive care medicine. The department fosters a robust teaching culture and supports participation in simulation and professional development activities.This role also presents the opportunity to contribute to clinical leadership and operational planning, aligning with broader teaching, research, and service development goals within the anaesthetic network.
