Employment Type: Contract | Government SectorAn opportunity exists for an experienced and motivated Windows & Linux Server Administrator to contribute to the delivery of critical infrastructure services within a government environment. This role is suited to a technically proficient individual who thrives in complex environments and is committed to service excellence, security, and continuous improvement.About the RoleThis position is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and enhancement of hybrid infrastructure platforms, including Windows Server, Red Hat Linux, Citrix, and VMware technologies. The successful candidate will play a key role in modernising existing systems, implementing automation, and ensuring the reliability and security of infrastructure supporting essential public services.Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Windows Server and Red Hat Linux environments
- Monitor system performance and resolve issues to ensure high availability
- Lead system upgrades, patching, and security updates in accordance with policy
- Collaborate with application support teams to develop and execute upgrade plans
- Standardise build procedures using templated images and automation tools (e.g., MECM, MDT, PowerCLI)
- Assist with virtual machine migrations and hardware transitions
- Participate in a 24x7 support roster for critical infrastructure (on-call duties required)
- Demonstrated experience in Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration
- Proven capability in VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi automation
- Practical experience with Citrix technologies including Studio, Director, and NetScaler Gateway
- Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or PowerCLI)
- Familiarity with MECM/SCCM or equivalent deployment frameworks
- Experience delivering infrastructure uplift in enterprise or government settings
- Exposure to ISO27001 controls, Essential Eight maturity models, or ITIL-aligned operations
- Experience in regulated, SLA-based, or cost-recovery environments
- Understanding of secure build baselines, patching, and monitoring practices
