In this role, you will provide subject matter expertise, operational advice and ensure our specialised team of Animal Management Officers are well supported. You will assist with the implementation and administration of Councils policies, Domestic Animal Management Plan and state legislation relating to animal and local law compliance, as well as assisting the team leader to ensure business unit outcomes are achieved.You will be assigned a designated area of the Geelong region and respond to customer service requests on a range of issues related to domestic animals and livestock. You will build relationships with members of the community by providing guidance, support, education and advice regarding responsible pet ownership.Work type: Permanent Full Time
Classification: Band 6 Commencing at $95,760 pa plus superKey responsibilities include:
- Contribute to a range of activities in animal management to develop and implement solutions in line with department strategy and plans.
- Provide subject matter advice when required to the department leaders and other relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate and execute complex investigations with sound understanding of the principles of evidence.
- Assist senior roles in the management of escalated complaints in relation to service standards or staff conduct
- Execute, monitor, and report on work progress against plans and budgets to ensure timely delivery in line with the relevant regulations and policies.
- Assist the Team Leader and provide input into the development of Policy and Process related to Animal Management.
- Maintain an equipment and vehicle register
The ideal candidate for this role will have a background in Animal Management within a Local Government or State environment. You will have experience leading a team and be comfortable liaising with a diverse range of people. You will have sound knowledge of Animal Management legislation, enjoy problem solving with high levels of negotiation and decision making skills.Essential Experience:
- Relevant qualification in Government Investigations / Animal Regulation and or substantial professional experience in Animal Management in the local government context.
- Well-developed planning and time management ability.
- Highly developed knowledge and deep understanding of all legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice relevant to Animal Management.
- Proficient in the operational application of legislation, conducting investigations and rules of evidence.
- Demonstrated people leadership capability in a dynamic, regulatory operational environment.
- Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check and a pre-employment medical assessment as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
