With a total commitment to sustainable farming practices, the Mackays Group is a family farming business that has been in operation for over 75 years and has diversified to produce bananas, papaya, sugarcane, cattle and broadacre crops.The Mackays Group is led with passion by the family’s 3rd generation and is the largest banana producer in Australia, employing more than 500 people. This vertically integrated business also deals in ripening and wholesale marketing of their own produce, as well as other growers.The PositionThe HSE Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role focuses on risk mitigation, employee safety, and environmental sustainability while promoting a culture of safety across the organisation.As the driver of safety across all areas of the business, your duties will be varied. Broadly, these duties will include design and management of workplace safety programs, risk assessment and hazard identification, incident and injury management, employee training and engagement and the responsibility for environmental compliance.Mackays has two main growing regions, with a collection of farming properties and the head office in Tully, as well as Lakeland between Cairns and Cooktown. As the HSE Manager, your duties will encompass managing safety across each of these sites and you will have a small team to support you in your duties.The PersonWe are keen to hear from you if you possess the following background, experience and key attributes;
  • Ideally 5+ years of relevant experience in a HSE environment (exposure to agriculture is ideal but not a prerequisite)
  • High level analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels
  • Strong team player with excellent stakeholder engagement skills, both internal and external
  • Willingness to travel to Group sites in Far North Queensland (frequent) and interstate (infrequent)
  • Tertiary qualifications in a discipline such as Safety or Business
  • High levels of initiative and personal drive with the ability to work autonomously
  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability for your actions
