Requisition ID: CAM26966**This position is available for the current clinical year, up to 01 February 2026**The Provisional Fellow position in Academic Medicine at The Children's Hospital Westmead provides Advanced Trainees an opportunity to further their training, developing skills important for a consultant role in the spheres of clinical care, education and training as well as research with support from the team consultants and other health care professionals. The Provisional Fellow role is a leadership role, both within the department for other junior medical staff and medical students as well as members of the multidisciplinary team, but also across the broader hospital community.This position has three components:
- A medical education component focused on active face to face and on-line teaching of postgraduate junior doctors within the Children's Hospital at Westmead, and within the Sydney Medical Program
- A clinical component in the areas of Paediatric Medicine or Surgery or Subspecialty interest (maximum 0.2 FTE)
- A research component in the area of Medical Education or Paediatric Medicine or Surgery or Subspecialty interest (maximum 0.4 FTE)
- To provide training in medical education as preparation for a career in academic paediatric medicine or surgery
- To develop proficiency in clinical and medical education research and provide a framework for future leadership positions in paediatric medicine (e.g. paediatric education)
- To provide effective service to paediatric patients with increasing autonomy, while developing expertise in medical/surgical practice, in a complex clinical environment
- To assist in ensuring that the service provided to patients and their families in New South Wales and beyond is of the highest quality, sustainable, flexible and transparent
- To develop clinical proficiency in the care of children with complex health problems
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as an advanced trainee or equivalent. Those registered with the RACP, must have preferably completed a minimum 6 months as an advanced trainee with RACP (or equivalent) at commencement of Fellowship.
- 6 months experience in relevant subspecialty or equivalent. Please detail relevant experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Excellent communication, leadership and teamwork skills with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals.
- Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, with a willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff.
- Understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to undertake research proposal.
