As well as providing products and services to our member, we play a broader community role by advocating for improvements in the healthcare system and in quality, safety and professionalism in medicine, through delivering education and research activities.In this role you will be assisting our Head of Legal with the provision of corporate, commercial and financial services legal advice and governance advice to all of Avant's businesses. This role is tasked with understanding our legal and regulatory obligations and various industry issues insofar as they impact the Avant Group and/or its members and policyholders.The key responsibilities include:
  • Undertake the review of marketing material to ensure legal compliance.
  • Provide corporate legal, commercial and governance advice to all of Avant's businesses.
  • Contracts drafting, review and negotiation.
  • Insurance product documentation.
  • Statutory interpretation and advice on legislative reform impacting Avant's business.
  • Litigation support for corporate litigation.
  • Legal Advice on complaints and potential disputes, including at AFCA.
  • Staff legal training.
  • Provide support to senior Lawyers, the General Counsel & Office of the CEO.
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Tertiary qualifications (LLB or equivalent).
  • Current NSW (or other Australian State) Legal Practitioner Practising Certificate - mandatory
  • Minimum 3 years' post qualification experience in a mid or top-tier firm.
  • Private practice experience in providing commercial legal advice.
  • Previous experience working in an Insurance and/or Australian financial services environment (beneficial).
  • A pragmatic and commercial focus (including understanding of the commercial environment of the general insurance market).
  • Highly developed stakeholder and people management skills.
  • High level of written and spoken language skills.
  • Understanding of the commercial environment of the general insurance market.
