About the RoleThe Psychologist plays a pivotal role at Canberra Grammar School in enhancing student well-being and academic achievement. In this position, the psychologist works collaboratively with other team members to support students and their families in addressing a spectrum of learning, emotional, and behavioural challenges.The psychologist provides specialised psychological assessments, evidence-based interventions, counselling and guidance to students and their parents, as well as providing advice and guidance to teachers. They utilise their psychological expertise in education and learning to support and build the capacity of students and the wider school community in creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment.The psychologist develops and implements evidence-based strategies to support students in navigating a wide range of social, emotional and behavioural challenges that may affect their wellbeing, engagement, and learning outcomes. The psychologist provides both proactive and responsive support, working directly with students experiencing emotional or behavioural challenges, while also contributing to whole school wellbeing initiatives.For this role, it is a requirement to be registered or have provisional registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), be eligible to hold a current membership with the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and have formal qualifications and relevant experience. The School Counsellor works within their professional scope of practice and in close collaboration with the School Psychologist team and other allied health professionals.About YouYou are dedicated, passionate and possess the following:
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Eligible for membership with the Australian Psychologist Society (APS)
  • Demonstrated experience working as a school counsellor or in a similar role
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with complex needs from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge and application of evidence-informed assessments and therapeutic interventions.
  • Proven capacity to respond effectively to critical incidents involving students
  • Demonstrated ability to engage collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and school wellbeing planning
  • Understanding of legal, ethical and professional responsibilities and how to apply them in a school setting
  • Commitment to inclusive, trauma-informed and culturally safe counselling practices
  • Experience with supervision, program evaluation, and contribution to whole-school wellbeing frameworks

  • Appropriate qualifications
  • Excellent written English and effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent technological literacy across a range of applications
  • Current First Aid qualifications, or willingness to obtain
  • A valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People Card
  • A current National Police Check; and
  • Full working rights within Australia
