- Preparing and typing legal papers and correspondence of a legal nature such as affidavits, writs, statements of claim, defences, summonses, complaints, briefs to counsel, motions and subpoenas from draft or dictated text;
- Arranging service and follow-up of service of legal documents;
- Arranging appointments, ensures deadlines are met, maintains Lawyer's diary etc;
- Maintaining precedents;
- Preparing briefs for hearings;
- Preparing subpoenas and arranging service when necessary;
- Dealing with clients and client queries in a polite and friendly manner;
- Liaising with barristers, clients, interpreters, Principals, Lawyers and staff;
- Screening telephone calls - taking detailed and accurate messages and instructions as required, recording the exact time and identity of caller and return telephone numbers;
- Assuming general office duties (filing, photocopying, faxing, binding etc.);
- Answering unattended telephone calls within the department; and
- Providing Lawyer(s) with feedback as to the status of work.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent literacy and communication skills.
- Professional and confident telephone manner.
- Polished secretarial skills and, most importantly, accurate typing, minimum 70 wpm.
- Excellent organisational and administrative ability.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Word for Windows, knowledge of PowerPoint and internet web skills.FileSite and CaseFlow knowledge essential.
- Wide knowledge of the Victorian WorkCover Authority practice.
- Experience with VWA database preferred.
