Reporting to the General Manager, Funding and Capital Markets, the Head of Markets position provides strategic leadership and oversight of WATC’s funding and investing activities. This includes sourcing borrowings, managing foreign exchange risk, overseeing balance sheet and liquidity management, and investing surplus funds on behalf of WATC and its clients, with a forward-looking approach.Key activities include:
- Overseeing development and execution of the following strategies:
- Funding and liquidity management plans that ensure ongoing access to financial markets;
- Balance sheet (ALM) risk management plans that are responsive to market conditions, client requirements, and the broader risk environment;
- Tailored investment strategies for each investment portfolio under management.
- Collaborating across the organisation to develop and implement investor relations engagement strategies and the sustainability program, ensuring both are integrated in planning and operational activities.
- Overseeing foreign exchange management activities for WATC and its clients.
- Providing strategic advice and recommendations to the Executive on borrowing, investment, hedging strategies, and client lending products and services.
- Identifying new sources of borrowing to meet projected requirements, including enhancing existing facilities and development of new programs.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of domestic and international liability management trends.
- Contributing to the development of future corporate strategic directions through influence and facilitation.

- Extensive experience and a deep understanding of both domestic and global funding markets.
- Strong expertise in asset management, including money market and credit market instruments.
- Proven ability to identify and develop long-term, sustainable, and cost-effective funding strategies, with a strong understanding of investor preferences and market capacity.
- High level of integrity, demonstrated through adherence to professional and ethical standards and prudent discretion in handling confidential information.
- Superior relationship management and influencing skills, including proven ability to build strong, open and collaborative relationships with investors, clients, and internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating across teams and managing competing priorities.
- Capability to provide strategic insights, critical thinking and wide-ranging advice informed by experience.
