This Community Paediatric role works as part of the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) Child, Youth and Family (CYF) Community Health Team. The incumbent is part of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai multidisciplinary team but may be required to work in the other sectors at times, namely North-Shore Ryde and Northern Beaches.
The aim of the role is to provide integrated community care to optimise child and youth health outcomes, wellbeing and lifetime potential.
The role includes clinical duties as well as service planning, waitlist management and introducing new Models of Care (MoC) to address rising demand. The key focus of the service development work will be to develop strategies for timely and comprehensive care (such as GP-Paediatric co-management of ADHD) and to monitor the impact of new strategies on access to care. This will include leading interagency collaboration,and supporting GPs in ADHD management.
The clinical aspects of the role will be to provide family-centred, evidence-based care. Medical responsibilities include assessment and ongoing management of children and young people (CYP) 0-18 years old who present with developmental-behavioural problems, including developmental delay, autism, ADHD and Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. The client group includes those living in out of home care (OOHC), Aboriginal and refugee children and those with likely developmental disabilities. The role includes actively contributing to multidisciplinary and multisectoral meetings, care planning and case reviews to ensure coordinated care for CYP and their families.
The incumbent is expected to promote a population health approach and to actively participate in health promotion, quality improvement and research initiatives.Purpose of the Position
You will provide clinical management and consultation service to patients in the Primary and Community Health. This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals, mentoring for Junior Medical officers and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within NSLHD.This position is temporary with the possibility of temporary extension based on performance, funding and needSelection Criteria * MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) with subspecialty qualification in Community Child Health or General Paediatrics or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered.

- Extensive Community Paediatric /Developmental and Behavioural/Child Protection Paediatric experience. Proven capacity and experience in assessment and management of children and adolescents with complex developmental, learning, behavioural and psychosocial problems, managing complex challenging behaviour, including use of medication.
- Demonstrated clinical, diagnostic and technical skills commensurate with functioning as an independent Community Child Health or General Paediatrics Consultant to undertake research and service improvement projects relevant to population health, developmental and behavioural paediatrics and preferable to have a Masters Degree in Public Health.
- Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate as a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to other medical staff. Leadership skills and experience in developing service partnerships with other agencies and General Practice to support integrated care for children with complex needs
- High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment
- Demonstrated participation in and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, including research, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
- Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on-call rosters already existing or established and Current NSW Driver's Licence (P2 Licence acceptable).
