DataGene is a not-for-profit organisation at the forefront of genetic gain and herd improvement in the Australian dairy industry. It also plays a pivotal role in developing advanced data systems and digital solutions across agriculture. DataGene delivers commercial services that include genetic evaluation, software development, database architecture, herd improvement tools and data aggregation, while also engaging in research, development and extension.With a growing portfolio of commercial software, data and strategic consulting services, DataGene supports both Australian and International clients. Its members include leading herd improvement service providers, genetic suppliers, breed associations and peak dairy industry organisations.The PositionReporting to the Board and Chair, the CEO will lead DataGene’s strategic, financial, and operational direction, with a strong and enhanced focus on commercial growth, innovation and key stakeholder engagement. The CEO will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities (domestic and international), expanding DataGene’s commercial footprint and enhancing its reputation as a leader in agricultural data services.This is a dynamic and challenging role within a complex, data-rich environment. The CEO will oversee a diverse portfolio including genetic evaluation, database development, software development, strategic consulting and international collaborations. The role requires a people focus, a proven commercial mindset, technical acumen, and the ability to navigate varied stakeholder interests across agribusiness. The CEO will represent DataGene nationally and internationally, building strategic partnerships and driving innovation across the agribusiness sector.The PersonWe are seeking a visionary leader with the following background, skills and attributes:

Minimum 10 years’ experience in agribusiness, ideally with exposure to the dairy industry and agricultural data services
Proven track record in people leadership, commercial business development, and delivering growth in digital or data driven environments
Experience in leading research or industry led program development and implementation
Strong strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build and maintain high impact partnerships
Demonstrated success in implementing organisational strategy and driving performance
Strong financial acumen and governance experience, with a whole of business leadership approach
Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for innovation and delivering measurable outcomes
Relevant tertiary qualifications (agricultural science, animal science, business, MBA or related fields)
Current drivers licence – minimum ‘C’ Class
Willingness to travel and represent DataGene frequently, including interstate, regional, and internationally
