This is a hands-on and strategic leadership role, responsible for two key outcomes:1 - Defining the chapter culture, processes, and responsibilities2 - Actively contributing as a product designer within one of our multidisciplinary squads.Key responsibilitiesDefine and Lead the Product Design Chapter
  • Establish and evolve the chapter's mission, operating rhythm, and best practices
  • Set tangible goals for craft, culture, and career progression
  • Champion the Product Designer role across CommSec, working with cross-functional partners to clarify remits and embed design in the development lifecycle
  • Coach, Develop, and Retain Talent
  • Provide regular, actionable feedback to promote continuous growth and technical excellence
  • Create an inclusive, supportive environment where designers can do their best work
  • Build a strong team identity and foster collaboration across designers and squads
Deliver Outstanding Design Work (Squad Contribution)
  • Be a hands-on member of a product squad, delivering high-quality design work that solves real user problems
  • Facilitate design thinking, usability testing, and iterative improvements
  • Advocate for our customers at every step—from strategy, discovery to delivery
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build effective partnerships with CX, Product, Engineering, Data, and other teams.
  • Clearly communicate the value and impact of design to senior stakeholders and influence product strategy.
Uplift Design Craft and Capability
  • Lead design critiques, reviews, and share-outs.
  • Identify skill gaps and champion targeted upskilling and professional development opportunities.
What You’ll Bring
  • 7+ years of experience designing digital/staff products end-to-end in cross-functional product teams.
  • Proven ability to lead discovery and delivery activities with customers, product, and engineering stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of human-centred design methodologies and how to apply and execute them pragmatically in a fast-paced agile environment.
  • Excellent interaction and UI design skills, with an eye for detail and craft.
  • Experience designing for complex systems, services, or platforms, not just isolated features.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills — you’re as comfortable sketching ideas on a whiteboard with engineers as you are presenting strategic concepts to executives.
  • Proficiency with modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite) and a basic understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, components, design tokens).
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and complexity, balancing customer needs with business goals.
  • Experience with metrics-driven product development (e.g., running experiments, A/B testing, usage funnels data).
  • A portfolio that showcases end-to-end product design thinking, craft, and measurable impact.
