This is an exciting opportunity for a Family and Carer Peer Worker to join our Community Mental Health team. The role will contribute to the development of sustainable recovery oriented practice through quality improvement activities and participation in meetings along with providing advocacy and support to our consumers and their families.
The Family and Carer Peer Worker will be located at Sutherland Hospital, drawing on personal lived experience of family/carer role for a consumer with mental health challenges, to develop empathic relationships and collaborating in planning, delivery and evaluation of the service. - Relevant tertiary qualifications in health promotion or related discipline or extensive experience in the health promotion field, or combination of both study and work experience or for Non-Grad a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness and commitment to obtain.
- Experience accessing and navigating health care services.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current local, State and National legislation and standards relevant to mental health.
- Familiar with lived experience values and principles, recovery principles, trauma informed care.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to provide quality written documentation through the use of proficient IT skills.
- Demonstrated a strong interest in new knowledge and emerging practices relevant to the being a Familyand Carer Peer Support Worker.
- Current Drivers Licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
