The OpportunityMonash University is seeking a highly experienced legal professional to join the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) as a Senior Manager, Legal Services - Commercial and Property. Monash is a modern, multi-national, research-intensive university, with over 17,000 staff, 86,000 students and a diverse and complex range of business needs. The Commercial and Property team provides legal support across major commercial transactions, IT and general procurement, and a wide range of property and construction matters. In this senior leadership role, you will be managing a small team of senior lawyers, and will deliver expert legal support for senior University stakeholders. Working closely with and supporting the Director, Legal Services - Commercial and Property you will ensure the delivery of top tier legal support and play a key role in advancing the University's strategic and operational goals.This position will be responsible for providing timely, practical and high-quality legal advice, across a range of commercial and/or property law matters, ensuring alignment with the University's strategic direction. You will draft and negotiate a wide variety of legal agreements, manage complex transactions and projects, and offer expert guidance to both internal OGC colleagues and external University stakeholders. You will also play a key leadership role, guiding a team of legal professionals, managing stakeholder relationships, contributing to service delivery improvements, and ensuring the legal function operates with excellence, integrity and efficiency in a fast-paced and high-volume environment.To be successful in this role you will be a qualified legal practitioner with at least 10 years' post-admission experience (indicative). You will bring deep technical expertise, in the areas of commercial law and/or property law, ideally with a strong focus on IT procurement. You will have proven people management experience. A strong communicator and strategic thinker, you will demonstrate the ability to manage complex legal matters independently, work collaboratively with senior stakeholders, and lead with professionalism, ethical judgement and discretion.
