Paediatric Intensive Care Consultant - Regional Queensland

• Provide specialist care for critically ill infants and children in a 5-bed PICU/PHDU with surge capacity for up to six ventilated patients
• Manage a diverse, complex casemix including medical, surgical, trauma, and oncology cases
• Participate in retrievals from a wide regional network covering Cairns, Mackay, Mount Isa, and surrounding regions
• Supervise and mentor junior doctors and trainees, fostering a strong culture of learning
• Engage in quality improvement, research, and service development initiatives

• Over 300 PICU/PHDU admissions annually, with 80% emergency presentations — ensuring a stimulating clinical environment
• Accredited for both Foundation and Elective Training by the College of Intensive Care Medicine
• Access to a wide range of paediatric subspecialties including ENT, neurosurgery, oncology, and advanced respiratory and renal support
• Opportunity to participate in neonatal retrievals and collaborate closely with NICU teams and paediatric cardiology services
• Potential to negotiate a rotational secondment to a major tertiary children’s hospital for additional exposure and professional development
