Their customers include sporting venues, stadiums, theatres, performing arts centre’s, houses of worship, schools, public precincts/conference centres, corporate facilities, parliaments, TV studios and councils.The Role:
In this role you will be a hands-on Fabricator managing a team of two fabricators. In the future you will take on apprentices as well.
Your Supervisory duties will include:
- Oversee workshop Fabrication staff on a day-to-day basis.
- Set up and organise workshop layout, tools, and fabrication systems
- Read and interpret technical drawings and weld procedures
- Perform precise fabrication and welding across a range of metals
- Maintain quality control and ensure compliance with industry standards
- Manage scheduling and job progress for incoming work
- Liaise with Project Managers regarding job scopes.
- Supervise fabrication trades, employees, contractors and suppliers to ensure assigned work confirms to quality, time and productivity.
- Review, as required, the product being manufactured against engineering specifications.
- Review, as required, progress of jobs against estimated labour and material requirements.
- Coordinate, plan and execute workflow activities to make the best use of staff, equipment and other resources.
- Ensure the workshop housekeeping and operating practices are of a high standard and tools and equipment are well-maintained.
- Maintain a high performing team and take responsibility for supporting, advising and mentoring the team.
- Train employees on new procedures or processes as required.
- Comply with QA/QC procedures and maintain production documents.
- Completing general administration tasks.
- Reading and interpreting detailed shop (production) drawings or specifications to find out job, material, equipment requirements and lay out a welding project.
- Collaborating with project managers and metal tradespersons to ensure smooth work operations.
- Maintaining welding safety guidelines and regulations to ensure a safe work environment.
- Measuring and marking work pieces using straight edges, rules, calipers etc.
- Undertaking general sheet metal fabrication. Welding materials in flat, horizontal and vertical positions.
- Applying knowledge of metallurgy and geometry in selecting welding equipment and configuration.
- Constructing base templates as required.
- Measuring and marking out cutting and bending lines.
- Cut, roll, shape, bend, mould, spin, heat or hammer metal products to fabricate parts or sub-assemblies.
- Double checking design specifications before commencing cutting works.
- Fabricating and constructing metal components.
- Carrying out pre-start checks on machinery and on any other item of plant you are required to operate.
- Grinding and finishing completed products.
- Performing quality checks and inspecting product/s and/or materials for conformity with established operational standards
- Undertaking non-trade tasks, including operating lifting equipment incidental to general work.
To be successful in obtaining this role you will have:
- Cert 3 in Engineering (Metal Fabrication) Boiler making or welding trade
- Experience leading a fabrication team in a similar role
- 5+ years Fabrication experience
- Advanced knowledge of industrial metalwork
- Time management skills and high attention to detail.
- Leadership capability in maintaining company disciplines and making executive decisions.
- A results-driven collaborator with a positive and initiative-taking attitude
- Excellent communication, organizational, team management and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read drawings, reports, engineering documents and specifications.
- Administrative capability to manage quality, OHS&E, and company documentation.
- Ability to take ownership and responsibility for the results of the team.
- Top-class metal fabrication skills.
- Experience working with Carbon steel
- An excellent ability to read plans, technical drawings and interpret shop drawings
- A focus on exceeding customer expectations.
- Have a can-do attitude, are positive, reliable & punctual.
- Forklift license would be advantageous
