Requisition ID: REQ595850This position may be extended at the discretion of the LHD without further interview or advertisement.St George Hospital is a metropolitan teaching hospital with a well regarded paediatric unit, with approximately 17,000 paediatric ED presentations per year, 2500 deliveries and 3000 paediatric outpatient reviews per year. This position is primarily located at St George Hospital. This applicant must be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to demonstrate their ability to work as a team member within the facility.The Department of Paediatrics seeks an experienced Paediatrician to work with its multidisciplinary team of staff, providing expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department.Additional Key AccountabilitiesClinical
- Participate in the Paediatric on-call roster (approximately working a 1:5-10 on-call commitment) and care of inpatients, as well as capacity for follow-up of patients within their outpatient consulting rooms, where indicated
- Track record in the management of neonatal and paediatric emergencies at a consultant level. Current APLS certification is therefore required.
- Provide an accountable and high standard of General Paediatric and Neonatal care (including complex case management and the clinical supervision and teaching of staff).
- Experience in child at risk assessments.
- Demonstrated capacity for excellent communication, a teamwork philosophy and having an approachable manner which promotes a positive working environment.
- Adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence-based best practice and clinical protocols as approved by the LHD/NSW Health.
- Participate in the provision of health services within other district facilities if credentialed to do so.
- Other duties as required, relevant to and consistent with the classification of the role.
- Identify areas of service deficiency and respond to these, as well as participating in the management and governance of the paediatric department of St George Hospital.
- Participate in sentinel case and adverse event reviews as required.
- Participate in appropriate committees, including medication management.
- Ensure effective clinical handover processes in accordance with facility and LHD guidelines.
- Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

- Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide on application AHPRA Registration Number.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and the relevant Award/Determination.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
- Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality service in the specialty, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
- Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites. Demonstrated commitment to provision of a high standard of clinical care in the public sector setting.
